I got my first Kees as fluke. He was abandoned and had been badly abused. I took him to the vet and had to ask if he was a breed or a mutt. By the time I was ready for another dog I was living in Monterey and contacted a Kees rescue in the Bay Area, the next Kees was from a rescue in San Diego (where I was living then), and finally SCKR when I settled in Santa Barbara area. After retiring I became an active volunteer. I have had a total of 17 foster fails. The most at one time was 11, which included 6 temporary foster puppies, who were eagerly fostered by others. SCKR, as an organization, always puts the mental and physical health of the dog first, and I admire the integrity of all of the volunteers.
